In Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC
The International Green Model City
(hereinafter referred to as “IGMC”), a greener and low-carbon city initiative
was launched by the Global Forum on Human Settlements (GFHS) at the
headquarters of the United Nations in April 2011, in close collaboration with
various international organizations including UNEP and national as well as
local governments. IGMC initiative has already been registered at the United
Nations secretariat as an important commitment to Rio + 20 and SDGs and also
Contribute to the paradigm shift of China new urbanization wave and new
urbanization policy fostered by Chinese government.
IGMC standards 2.0, compiled by over 50 international experts who were convened by GFHS and UNEP, includes 12 principles, 84 indicators and corresponding strategies and measures with an authentication rating system to guide IGMC pilots planning and construction.
IGMC pilots incorporate the concept of smart growth and compact city and integrate the functions of “green economy, culture, education, residence and matched public services” in one integrated and comprehensive system. IGMC pilots aim to create increasing access to excellent ecology, efficient infrastructure, prosperous industry and diverse culture, and creating better life for all habitants.
